Use this question to help you getting closer to your goal
Think about this for a second, do you want to be mediocre?
That's what I thought so; nobody wants to be mediocre, correct?
You want to be better; you want to reach the next level. You want to be a better person, you want to be healthier, you want to be a better parent, a better spouse, you want to have a better business…
But, the issue is, you know where you want to go, but how do you reach there?
It’s easy to imagine the big business, the ideal partner, and the ideal body… but how do you get there?
But, how do you get to the NEXT LEVEL when you are HERE and NOW?
Something that I think it is important for you to realize is that you only have here and now, the only moment that counts is the moment where you are RIGHT NOW.
The past is gone, the future is not here, so, whatever energy you have it needs to be focused in the PRESENT.
To get to the next level, you need to be present, in the HERE AND NOW, all the time.
What do I mean by that?
One of my hefty goals is to reach a very, very, very old age, I want to reach at least 120 years old and be totally functional, physically, mentally and spiritually.
That’s my big goal. That’s my next level. But, how do I do that now?
Obviously, I cannot control if I’m actually going to live a long life, only God knows that, but, I can do everything that’s under my control, taking care of my body, soul and mind to help God with His work.
If I want to be functional physically, that means I need to take care of my body with great nutrition, hydration, sleep and exercise.
If I want to be mentally healthy, in addition to taking care of my body, it means I need to take care of what I feed my mind with, of what thoughts I allow myself to have and taking care of stress.
And, if I want to be spiritually fed, it means having meditation times, taking care of connections with friends and family, and surrounding myself with positive energies.
Now that I know what I need to do overall, how do I practically apply things, how do I make daily choices, to move towards my vision?
You have thousands of things happening every day, you are overwhelmed. So, how do you make sure you spend your time in those things that will get you CLOSER TO YOUR VISION instead of wasting time in things that do not bring you value?
One thing that I learned that I find very useful to screen through my daily activities, is to ask myself one simple question before I start anything. It helps me putting things into perspective.
Before I do something, I ask myself, is this that I am going to do right now helping me getting closer to my goal?
Before you allow yourself to overreact because of something that just happened, ask yourself, it’s feeling this way getting me closer to my goal?
Every time you start thinking all kind of negative thoughts, ask yourself, are these thoughts helping me getting closer to my goal?
Imagine that I’m at work at a meeting and there are cookies on the table. I have a choice right there, should I reach out and eat a cookie or pass? When I ask myself the question, does eating this cookie help me reaching my goal of being healthier? The answer is very clear; I will pass on the cookie.
Think about your life. Maybe your goal is to have more quality time with your family.
You get home and feel really tired after work, you just want to sit down, get a drink and check your phone to scroll through all the Facebook posts. Your husband is sitting by your side and your kids are all in front of the TV. Each of you minding your own.
If you ask yourself, how is checking social media now helping me getting closer to my family? What is your answer? What would you choose to do next? If you want to spend quality time with your family, your answer should be clear…
You have a choice to make every second. You can get closer to your goal or not.
Everything that you choose in the present, in the here and now influences how close you get to ACHIEVE YOUR DREAMS.
The more steps you give in the here and now that are aligned with your vision, the closer you get to it.
If you want to AVOID MEDIOCRITY and get to the next level, focus on the present moment.
Set your goal and use it to FILTER ALL YOUR DECISIONS.
Ask yourself, is this that I’m about to do getting me CLOSER TO MY GOAL?
