How to Set Up for a Productive Day Before Going to Sleep

How do you make sure you are going to have a great and productive day each day?

What are the habits that you have at the end of each day to ensure that you have a productive day ahead?

If you are an ambitious person and you want to have a magnificent life but you don’t want to fall into burnout and feel stressed all the time, you need to have a plan for each day so you can accomplish what you want.

But the secret to have a great daily plan is to have an even better evening routine.

Because when it comes to crafting an evening routine that sets you up for a productive day ahead, there are several best practices to consider.

Today I’ll share with you 6 key tips to optimize your evening routine for maximum productivity.

These tips revolve around your planning, setting boundaries, ways of unplugging, how you prepare, how you adjust, and of course, sleep.

If you want to be at your best each day, creating an effective evening routine that supports your goals and well-being will help you achieve that objective.

Here are 6 tips to optimize your evening routine

  1. Reflect and Plan: Spend about 15-30 minutes in the evening to reflect on your day, review what you accomplished, and identify any tasks that still need attention. Use this reflection time to plan out your priorities for the next day. Setting clear goals and priorities can help you hit the ground running in the morning. Know exactly what you need to do when you wake up in the morning, so there is no doubt about how you are spending your time.

  2. Set Clear Boundaries: Establish boundaries around your evening routine to ensure that you have dedicated time for relaxation and preparation for the next day. Do you need to set up a time in your calendar to ensure you have this night time for you? Who do you need to let know that you are creating this nightly routine so they are on board with your new plan?

  3. Unplug and Wind Down: Disconnect from screens and technology at least an hour before bed. Engage in calming activities such as reading, meditating, or practicing relaxation techniques to signal to your body that it's time to wind down for the night. Avoid work-related tasks or activities that may cause stress or disrupt your sleep. Ideally stop looking at your emails 1 hour before bed.  Think about ways to lower your lighting so you soften the mood in your home to mimic the sundown and allow your body to follow its circadian rhythms. For me ,I stop looking at social media about one hour before I go to bed, I love to sit down and relax on the sofa with dim lights, reading a book for about half an hour just before sleeping.

  4. Prepare for Tomorrow: Lay out your clothes for the next day, pack your bag, and gather any materials you'll need for your morning routine.  By preparing in advance, you can eliminate decision-making and streamline your morning routine. Do you need to have your meal prep in advance?

  5. Review and Adjust: Regularly review your evening routine to see what's working well and what could be improved.  Be open to adjusting your routine based on your evolving needs and priorities. Flexibility is important so keep it in mind when you look for what is working well and what is not and pivot as you see fit doing the things that work and eliminating those that don’t.

  6. Prioritize Sleep: Ensure that your evening routine supports a good night's sleep. Create a calming environment in your bedroom, establish a consistent bedtime, and practice good sleep hygiene habits to optimize your rest and recovery.  Think about the time you have dinner, is at least 2 hrs before bed? Do you have a dark bedroom, is it cool, is there silence, or do you need to do any adjustments?

Go over these best practices and see how you can start adding them into your evenings.  Incorporating these best practices into your evening routine, you can enhance your productivity and set yourself up for success in the days ahead.

Start small try one of these ideas at a time and see how it works for you.
